Former Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat hailed archer Sheetal Devi for her selection in the healthy category. Sheetal added another feather to her cap after being selected in India’s junior fitness team for the upcoming Asia Cup 3rd leg in Jeddah, becoming the first para-athlete from India to do so. Competing against more than 60 skilled archers under equal conditions at the national selection trials in Sonipat, the 18-year-old secured an impressive third place after four days of intense competition.
She scored a total of 703 points (352 + 351) in the qualifying round, equaling the score of top qualifier Tejal Salve. In the final standings, Tejal led with 15.75 points, followed by Vaidehi Jadhav with 15 points, while Sheetal narrowly edged Maharashtra’s Dnyaneshwari Gadadhe (11.5) to claim the third spot with 11.75 points. After her historic success, Phogat welcomed Sheetal on her behalf
“You are not only the most inspiring athlete but the most inspiring person in India for today’s generation. At a time when so many people are complaining about life, just one look at your picture reminds us what true strength, focus and determination really means. Take a bow Sheetal!!! A true example of courage, grace and the unsurpassed spirit of Indian sports.” Phogat on his X account. Posted by Vinesh Phogat on X account (Source: Phogat_Vinesh)
