
In a significant recognition of their historic achievement, the members of the Indian women’s cricket team were felicitated at Varsha Bungalow, the official residence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Thursday.
The event celebrated India’s first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title won on November 2 after defeating South Africa. Vice captain Smriti Mandhana and team members Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav were felicitated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for their outstanding contribution to the team’s triumph.
Each of the three players received a check of 2.25 crores as prize money, while head coach Amol Muzumdar received a check of 22.5 crores. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Sports Minister Adv. Manikrao Kokate, Culture Minister Ashish Shelar, Chief Secretary Sanjay Khadare and Commissioner Sheetal Teli.
Besides, bowling coach Avishkar Salvi, Padma Shri Diana Edulji, analyst Aniruddha Deshpande and support staff members Apama Gambhirrao, Mihir Upadhyay, Purva Kate and Mamta Shirrulla were also felicitated for their contribution to the team’s success.
Renuka, Kranti awarded Rs 1 crore each
Chief Minister Fadnavis further announced a cash reward of Rs 11 lakh for all support staff members, recognizing their vital role in India’s FIFA World Cup victory. Earlier, Himachal Pradesh pacer Renuka Singh Thakur and Madhya Pradesh burn Kranti Gaud Each of them received a cash reward of Rs 1 million from their respective state governments.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the award for Renuka on Monday and appreciated her contribution to India’s winning campaign. Hailing from Rohr in Shimla district, Renuka played a key role with the ball and maintained relentless pressure on the opposition throughout the tournament.
On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for Kranti Gaud and recognized her as “a daughter of the state who has made the nation proud”.
