Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Election Commission at election rallies in Bihar on Thursday.
Mr Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, said Mr Modi “only knows how to spread hatred”, adding that the prime minister’s “heart is full of hatred” and engaged in “pitting people against each other in the name of religion and caste”.
Ms Vadra alleged that the BJP and the poll panel were “colluding to rig elections, disenfranchise and attack the Constitution”.
Reacting to allegations of ‘jungle raj’ leveled by the NDA against the Mahagatbandhan, Mr Gandhi said in Araria that the ‘real jungle raj’ was unleashed by Mr Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah across the country from Delhi through the ‘misuse’ of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the tax and investigation department.
Mr. Gandhi said that Bihar would have a Mahagatbandhan government after the elections and assured that it would represent all sections of the society. He said the government will create jobs, provide quality education and provide better health facilities. “If the youth of Bihar can work across the country and build some of the best cities, why can’t they be given an opportunity in the state itself,” he asked.
The Congress leader said that the tourist circuit will be built to directly benefit the people. He said it will create job opportunities for the youth.
Mr Gandhi asked people to remain vigilant so that “the BJP does not steal the elections in the state like it did in Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh”. In Purnia, he said, “I have shown how Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and the Election Commission are committing ‘vote theft’. I have presented such evidence that neither the BJP nor the Election Commission could respond.”
Addressing two public meetings in Riga and Benipatti assembly constituencies, Ms Vadra alleged that Mr Modi “wants to buy votes by giving ₹10,000” before the elections.
“Today there is migration and poverty in Bihar. People are going to other states to earn for their families, but Modi and Nitish don’t see it. For 20 years, the NDA government is in power, but Modi never even went to any village in Bihar to know the condition of the people. They don’t care about the public at all,” she said in Riga.
In Benipatti, Ms Vadra asked people to “remember three names” – Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sindhu and Vivek Joshi – claiming they had “stolen people’s votes”. She alleged that the BJP-JD(U) combine had pushed Bihar into a “swamp of unemployment, migration, paper leakage and hooliganism”.
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and chief ministerial face of the INDIA bloc Tejashwi Yadav addressed public meetings in the 18 assembly constituencies that will go to polls in the second phase on November 11.
