The Vizag Junior Literary Fest (VJLF) will return for its sixth edition on November 8 and 9 at Hawa Mahal, bringing together writers, illustrators, educators and young readers for two days of talks, performances and books. Hosted by LitLantern for the Society for Culture and Literature, the non-profit organization continues its efforts to encourage children to read, listen and think critically.
Vizag Junior Lit Fest directors Priya Uppalapati, Sandhya Venugopal Godey and Sonal Sarda along with Kankatala Mallik, CMD of Kankatala, Sunil Nevatia of Pages Book Store and narrator Vikram Sridhar released the poster of the festival at a press conference on Thursday.
Over the weekend, there will be almost 100 talks for children between the ages of four and 16, along with talks for parents and teachers. The accompanying book fair organized by Pages Book Store will showcase children’s titles from leading publishers from across India and allow young readers to meet authors and illustrators in person.
Participants include writers Asha Nehemiah, Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan, Nandita da Cunha, Devika Cariapa, Vaishali Shroff and storytellers like Ameen Haque, Ankit Dwivedi and Vikram Sridhar. Each day will end with a theater performance The Storm and The Sound of Music. Inclusivity remains central. As part of the event at the festival, storyteller Vikram Sridhar will visit government schools in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram and conduct special sessions for differently-abled children. TDP Parliamentary Party Chairman Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu and University Vice-Chancellor Vigyan will be the chief guest at the inaugural session, while Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat will be the guest of honour. The two-day fest will run both days from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
