The three-level flyovers are being proposed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as a panacea to traffic problems near the intersection of Mindspace Road and Gachibowli-Miyapur Road in the western part of the city.
If approved by the government, this is the second such project in the city with three-level flyovers. The first such case was also in Gachibowli, on Old Mumbai Highway, where three flyovers – Gachibowli flyover, Shilpa Layout flyover and P. Janardhan Reddy flyover – cross over each other near Telecom Nagar at different levels.
The civic body has prepared proposals with an estimate of ₹290 crore for the latest project and sent it to the government for approval, sources said. Once approved, it will be included in the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project, under which 55 works are already in various stages of implementation with funding from the government.
Solution for Mehdipatnam
Another addition to the project could be a flyover connecting the Masab Tank-Banjara Hills road with the Chintal Basti road, for which a Detailed Project Report is being prepared. This flyover, along with a major part of the road widening, will be part of a larger solution to ease traffic congestion on the route from Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital towards Road No. 1, Banjara Hills via First Lancer and Pension Office for over three kilometres.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who is also in charge of the Metropolitan Administration & Urban Development wing, is said to have taken keen interest in the two projects and asked officials to expedite the proposals.
As part of the H-CITI project, 26 interchanges, 12 underpasses, four roads over bridges and three roads under bridges are being built, in addition to 10 road widening components. 27 of these components are already underway – several in the soil testing phase and several where underground utilities are being scanned. In the case of 13 components, approval by the agency is pending, and five more are in the tender process.
Ten other components are delayed as they are linked to either South Central Railways (in case of RoB and RuB) or Hyderabad Metro Rail, officials said.
