The management of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has asked company workers to increase coal mining and shipments in November to reach 72 million tonnes (7.2 million tonnes) of coal production to make up for the loss in production due to heavy rains.
Addressing a meeting with all regional CEOs of the company here on Thursday, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram said that an average of 2.4 million tonnes of coal needed to be mined every day this month to achieve the target of 72 million tonnes. This also required the removal of 13.75 million cubic meters of overburden every day.
Mr. Balram said heavy rains during the monsoon had adversely affected coal production in the first half of the financial year and intensified production and coal shipments would only help the company achieve its target of 72 million tonnes of coal production this year (2025-26) from now on.
According to company authorities, the company could achieve production of 32.63 million tonnes of coal in the first seven months of the current fiscal against 33.84 million tonnes achieved in the same period last year. Likewise, coal shipments for the first seven months of this year amounted to 33.37 million tons compared to 34.71 million tons for the first seven months of the previous fiscal period.
Commencing coal production at the new mines, the CMD said all clearances have been secured for the Kothagudem VK open pit mine and it is expected to produce at least six million tonnes of coal by the end of March. He directed the authorities concerned to focus on ensuring the clearance of other mines as the management planned to start production in at least four mines this year.
