More than 8,000 students from 14 districts are expected to gather in Palakkad for four days as part of the state school science festival starting on Friday.
The competitions will be held in six categories: Science, Social Sciences, Mathematics, IT, Work Experience and Vocational Upper Secondary Fair.
Registration will start at Government Moyan Model Girls Higher Secondary School on Friday at 10 am. General Education Minister V. Sivankutty will inaugurate the mela at 4.30 pm at the same venue. Excise Minister MB Rajesh will preside over the function.
Elaborate arrangements were made for the festival. Vegetarian food will be served at Government Victoria College. There is a dining hall with a capacity for 1000 people. In addition, food will be served at the six schools where the competitions are held.
Accommodation for boys will be provided at Model HS, Pezhumkara, Kannadi HSS and Palghat Lions School at Koppam. Accommodation will be provided for girls at Kanikkamatha HSS, St. Thomas Convent HSS, Olavakode and St. Sebastian EM School.
Trophies for winners will be presented at Moyan School. Up to 700 individual trophies and 100 collective trophies will be given away.
Officials said there will be 2,250 volunteers on duty. Social science competitions will take place on site. New for the HS and HSS categories is the historical seminar.
