The CM will launch Reading Day celebrations on June 19
Chief Minister VD Satheesan will formally launch the state-level celebrations on the occasion of National Reading Day at Kanakakkunnu Palace on June 19.
The function is organized under the aegis of PN Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra in memory of PN Panicker. A rich program was prepared as part of the celebrations.
General Education Minister N. Samsudheen told a media conference on Tuesday that the main objective of the celebrations is to promote reading and inspire the young generation to develop reading habits.
As part of the campaign, 100,000 reading rallies will be organized in public spaces across the country, including police stations, railway stations, bus stops and other public spaces. Reading Day pledges will be made among students with a special emphasis on drug education.
Teachers who have won recognition at the national level will be felicitated through the ‘Guru Vandanam’ program under the campaign.
The month-long celebration will feature various programs including reading quiz competition, poetry recitation, essay writing, word competitions, drawing competitions, mass runs, discussion forums, seminars and Reading Day parades.
In addition, schools will set up PN Panicker reading corners. Awareness programs against alcohol and drug abuse, street plays, book discussions and interactions with literary figures will also be organised.
