The Federation of Associations of Telangana Universities (FATHI) has announced that it will organize a massive ‘Maha Students Rally’ on November 11, with nearly ten thousand students expected to march towards the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad. The demonstration is part of an ongoing protest demanding the resolution of key issues in higher education in the state.
In a statement issued on the band’s third day on Wednesday, November 5, FATHI said its executive committee members also released a poster for the upcoming Teachers’ Telangana Reconciliation Meet (Telangana Adhyapaka Savantana Sabha) scheduled for November 8 at the LB Stadium. The event is expected to attract around one lakh teachers and non-teaching staff from all the 33 districts of Telangana.
As part of its ongoing protest, the federation has decided to boycott the B. Pharmacy regular and supplementary examinations scheduled by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) on Thursday, November 9. “No college of pharmacy will function in the entire state,” FATHI said, urging the vice-chancellor and registrar of the university to postpone the examination indefinitely.
The federation also appealed to the chief secretary to include banking and financial experts rather than bureaucrats in the proposed trust bank committee. Besides, FATHI demanded the transfer of A. Sridevasena, Principal Secretary, Education Department, alleging that she misled the Chief Minister and other ministers in academic affairs.
The organization reiterated its call for immediate release of ₹5,000 crore out of the ₹10,000 crore in outstanding fees for fee payment, saying the delay is having a serious impact on private higher education institutions across Telangana.
