After a 34-year-old domestic helper was allegedly assaulted by Varthur police station staff over allegations of theft, an investigation led to the suspension of three police officers.
According to officials, on October 30, Priyanka Jhanwal, a resident of Sobha Dream Acres Apartment, lodged a complaint that her domestic help Sundari Bibi had stolen a diamond ring.
Sub-inspector Mounesh Doddamani registered an unknown report regarding the complaint before leaving the station.
In his absence, the crime squad — identified as Sanjay Rathod, Santosh Kudari and Archana — allegedly assaulted the first-floor aide of the police station during interrogation.
After the incident, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKT) of Marathahalli Sub-Division conducted an inquiry and submitted a detailed report. Based on the findings, the three employees were suspended and a case under Rule 7 was initiated against Sub-Inspector Doddamani for insufficient supervision.
The ACP, Marathahalli sub-division, conducted the investigation on Tuesday on the orders of the city police commissioner, who sought a report.
Earlier in the day, Home Minister G. Parameshwara took cognizance of the incident and directed the city police commissioner to investigate in detail and submit a report.
