Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president and Peravoor MLA Sunny Joseph was allegedly ousted by Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) workers when he inaugurated the Chavassery road project in Irrirty village on Tuesday.
Mr. Joseph argued that since the road work was funded by the government, the local legislature should start it according to official protocol. However, CPI(M ) workers allegedly raised slogans against him forcing him to leave the venue.
Addressing supporters at a nearby venue later, the MLA said funds for the renovation of a road in Peravoor Assembly constituency were sanctioned following complaints raised during Navakerala Sadas.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) workers alleged that the MLA boycotted Navakerala Sadas and is now trying to get recognition for the project. After the protest, the road was ceremonially opened by the chairman of the village of Irrity.
Mr. Joseph said he attended the event as a representative of the people. He added that the road project had received administrative sanction on September 19 this year, rejecting the CPI(M)’s claim that the approval came in 2024. The MLA said he had proposed ₹5.75 crore for the Kakkayangad-Palapuzha road and ₹1.5 billion for the Chavassery road and that the government had approved the projects accordingly.
