Sports play a vital role in instilling self-confidence, discipline and leadership skills in students, Samagra Shiksha State Project Director B. Srinivasa Rao said on Tuesday. Speaking at the inaugural session of the State School Band Competitions at KBC Boys High School, Patamata, Vijayawada, Mr. Rao emphasized that participation in sports and band activities fosters teamwork and cooperation – qualities essential for future success.

Referring to badminton star PV Sindhu, he said many successful sportspersons started their journey at the school level. He urged teachers to actively encourage both boys and girls to take up sports, noting that sports today offer promising career opportunities.
Mr. Rao urged at least 50 schools to participate in the band competition next year, following the growing achievements of girls in both sports and culture. He also cited India’s recent women’s cricket triumph, shared his joy with the students and urged them to take pride in the achievement and take inspiration from it.
Additional State Project Directors MR Prasanna Kumar and K. Ravindranath Reddy, State Secretary Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), State Secretary D. Devananda Reddy, State School Band Competition Nodal Officer and School Games Federation State Secretary G. Bhanumurthi Raju, Deputy Principal AD Manohar Naik, Headmasters and other school principals attended the event.
Students from various districts showcased their skills in both boys and girls brass and pipe categories. The winners who will represent Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming zonal level competitions involving 11 states are: Montessori Indus Residential School, Kurnool (Brass Band – Boys); Dr. BR Ambedkar Gurukulam, Jangareddygudem (Pipe Band – Girls); and PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malkapuram, Visakhapatnam (Brass – Girls).
