
The United States is witnessing one of the biggest political tests for Republican President Donald Trump as the election serves as the first major assessment of his leadership since taking office. Mayoral elections in New York and California and gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey. The survey is ongoing, but when does the voting period end and when can we expect the first exit poll results?
Polling stations will close at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (7:30 AM IST) in New York, where the mayoral election is being voted on. In New Jersey, polls will close at 8 pm Eastern Time (6:30 am IST) and, like New York, results are expected to start coming in soon after. The state has until December 4 to officially confirm the results.
In Virginia, polling stations closed at 7:00 PM Eastern Time (5:30 AM IST) and in California, polling stations closed at 11:00 PM Eastern Time (9:30 AM IST).
Results for all states will be available once polls close. Some US election exit poll results have started coming in.
Virginia
According to recent reports, Democrat Abigail Spanberger has won the state’s race for governor — becoming the state’s first female governor. She defeated Republican Winsome Earle-Sears.
Spanberger will replace Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who is barred from running for a second term.
