At least 48 Bangladeshi infiltrators have been arrested for trying to cross illegally into the neighboring country through the Basirhat border pockets in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, a senior police officer said on Sunday (Nov 02, 2025).
According to a BSF officer, they were leaving India after the announcement of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal.
While 33 Bangladeshis were nabbed by the BSF on Sunday (November 2) and handed over to the Swaroop Nagar police station, 15 others were nabbed on Saturday evening (November 1), the officer said.
The arrested individuals were working as maids and laborers in parts of West Bengal and other states and were trying to reach their country “in fear of detention or deportation after notification by the SIR”, a BSF officer said.
During the exercise, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conduct house-to-house visits to verify voter details.
In the last three days, the BSF has detained 89 Bangladeshis illegally staying in India at the same border stretch and handed them over to the police.
