
Anant Kumar Singh, Janata Dal (United) candidate from Mokama constituency and former MLA, has been arrested in connection with the murder case of Jan Suraaj supporter Dularchand Yadav, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma. This comes ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for this month.
Anant, a local influential figure, was named as an accused along with four others in the FIR filed following a complaint by the deceased’s grandson, a PTI report said.

“On October 30, a clash took place between two groups of contesting candidates. They pelted stones, resulting in injuries. A dead body was found after the incident. Deceased Dularchand Yadav, aged 75, was a resident of the village where this clash took place… Cases were registered by both sides and the police started investigating the matter…,” ANI quoted Sharma as saying.

He added, “Based on the evidence, eyewitness accounts and the postmortem report of the deceased, it appears that the Model Code of Conduct was violated and that is a serious issue. It was found that all this happened in the presence of candidate Anant Singh, who is also the prime accused in the case. Anant Singh was arrested. All the three accomplices, Ramjeet, were arrested along with him, Ramjeet and his accomplice, Manikant. presented before judge and a proper investigation will follow.”
“Three people have been arrested on charges of murder and raids are on to arrest others. More arrests will be made soon. The CID has also started investigating the case… Cases have been registered in different sections… People from both the groups have been arrested for misbehaving with the police and creating law and order problems… The other three accused of murder have not been arrested,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav questioned the administration’s “stoic silence” over the incident. “Why is the administration maintaining a stoic silence on the incident. How was the candidate and his supporters allowed to campaign with a convoy of 40 vehicles and weapons? It is quite clear that the state government is providing protection to goons and criminals,” PTI quoted Tejashwi as saying.
Polling for the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting of votes scheduled for November 14.
