The Enforcement Directorate questioned Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for 11 hours on Monday (June 15, 2026) in connection with the alleged primary school job scam case.

Mr. Banerjee arrived at the CGO Complex ED office at 11 am in response to a summons as part of a money laundering probe linked to alleged irregularities in the recruitment of primary school teachers. He left the office at night.

“Yesterday (Sunday) I was interrogated for over eight hours and today (Monday) for 11 hours). This is a 2023 case and I have appeared before the agency 10-12 times. I will not say whether there is political pressure or not. The less said about BJP the better. On the one hand they will break our throats and surrender even if you show up after the polls before I see violence. agencies if they call me in future too,” he said Mr. Banerjee while leaving the ED office.

Officials said Mr. Banerjee was being questioned over the alleged money trail in the scam. “He was questioned about some financial documents, digital records and statements of other accused to trace the alleged proceeds of crime. Investigators were looking for details about who handled the funds, how they were moved between accounts and entities and whether these transactions were layered to conceal their origin,” the officer said, requesting anonymity.

The ED’s questioning came a day after Mr Banerjee was questioned by the West Bengal CID in connection with the alleged forging of signatures of Trinamool Congress MLAs on documents related to the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly.

He is also scheduled to appear before the CID again on Tuesday in connection with the same case.

Meanwhile, a court in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district on Monday issued an arrest warrant against Sumit Roy, a close associate of Mr. Banerjee, in connection with an alleged land scam case.

Meanwhile, Mr. Roy approached the Calcutta High Court seeking anticipatory bail. His lawyer mentioned the matter before the court, Joy Sengupta, and the plea is likely to be heard later this week.

Trinamool Congress MLA and former minister Rathin Ghosh on Monday appeared before the ED in connection with the alleged municipal recruitment scam. In the same case, former minister Sujit Bose was arrested on May 11.
