Heavy to extremely heavy rains caused by Cyclone Montha caused two power distribution companies – TGSPDCL and TGNPDCL – to suffer heavy damage to their distribution network mostly in Nalgonda, Suryapet, Nagarkurnool, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Mahabubabad, Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem districts.
According to Southern Discom officials, 197 low-voltage electricity poles were washed away in the floods in Nalgonda district, followed by 105 in Nagarkurnool and 42 in Suryapet. Another 82 11kV masts and 23 distribution transformers were washed away/damaged in Nalgonda district.
Further, 33/11 kV substations at Kambalapalli, Akkaram, Teldarupalli and Cherukupalli suffered damage to their 33 kV feeders and towers. Discom authorities resumed supply by starting restoration work on war footing at Teldarupalli and Cherukupalli substations, while work was going on in the case of Kambalapalli and Akkaram substations after their 33kV towers fell to the ground.
In the Northern Discom area, a total of 428 masts were damaged in extremely heavy rains and eight substations were flooded or abandoned, 43-33kV feeders and 116-11kV feeders were also damaged. Of these, six substations, all feeders have already been restored, and in the case of the remaining substations, the supply was handled by replacement lines.
