Australia captain Alyssa Healy said the new ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup winner will greatly help the global game. Australia crashed out of the tournament after losing to India in the second semi-final by five wickets at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.
as a result India have qualified for their third ICC Women’s World Cup finalwhere they will face South Africa, who will be making their first appearance in the summit clash. Ahead of the all-important game, Alyssa Healy said the new winner would do wonders for the game. She mentioned the craze for the game in India and said that a win will do wonders for Indian cricket.
“Seeing a new winner will do wonders for the game. To see how well it’s supported here in India, first of all I think it’s great for them to have the opportunity to play it at home in front of their home fans in the ODI World Cup final, it’s going to be really special for them,” Healy told the post-match press conference.
Apart from that, she also mentioned how South Africa have also come close to winning the trophy on several occasions, so it will be great to watch to see them go head-to-head.
“So I hope it will do great things for Indian cricket and for South Africa as well. I think they’ve been close in the past, so for them to have an opportunity in the final, yeah, it’s going to be, it’s going to be great to watch. It’s going to hurt a little bit, but it’s going to be really great to watch and hopefully we’ll see it do great things for every global game and more investment going forward.”
Meanwhile, India will be aiming for their maiden World Cup crown as they reached the final for the third time. The women in blue came agonizingly close to the World Cup title in 2005 and 2017, but ended up losing both times.
South Africa, on the other hand, reached the final of their third consecutive ICC Women’s event, having previously reached the final of the last two T20 World Cups. The Laura Wolvaardt-led side will be eager to end their trophy drought in a blockbuster final on Sunday, November 2 in Navi Mumbai.
