The Kerala High Court on Thursday issued a two-week interim stay on the Calicut University senate elections scheduled to be held on November 6.
The court issued the preliminary stay on a petition filed by M. Sreenath, a councilor of the university’s union, who alleged that attempts were being made to rig elections by expelling members of the university’s new general council, which has a one-year term. He further claimed that the electoral roll was prepared by incorporating the members of the existing/old general council and demanded a stay of the election till the disposal of the petition.
The plea was sent for consideration on November 15.
