Mumbai Police have registered an FIR against unidentified persons after NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar showed the preparation of a fake Aadhaar card in the name of US President Donald Trump and its use to register fake voters, officials said on Thursday (Oct 30, 2025).
During a press conference on October 16, Mr. Pawar demonstrated how fake Aadhaar cards are prepared on websites and used to register fake voters.
BJP social media cell co-organizer Dhananjay Wagaskar watched this content on a YouTube channel where allegations were also leveled against his party leader.
Taking this seriously, Mr. Wagaskar lodged a police complaint against the unidentified creator, owner and user of the website and others, a police official said.
The complainant alleged that the political leader had committed a fraudulent act that endangered social security by inciting anger and hatred among the public against the “autonomous institution of India” and his party (BJP), according to the FIR.
He alleged that by creating fake Aadhaar cards through a fake website, an attempt was made to mislead and create discord and enmity between the two groups in the society.
Acting on a complaint, the cyber police here on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) registered a case against two unidentified persons under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for forgery, identity theft, spreading false information and provisions of the Information Technology Act, it said.
On 16 October, Rohit Pawar alleged that malpractices such as registration of fake voters, mass deletion of genuine voters and double registration of voters took place following the unfavorable results for the BJP-led Mahayuti in the Lok Sabha elections last year.
“Unfavorable” voters were shown as dead and fake voting was conducted in the name of the dead, Mr. Pawar alleged.
Between 2019 and 2024, 32 million voters were added, an increase of 6.5 million voters per year or 54,000 voters per month. But between the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the Maharashtra assemblies, 48 crore voters have been added in just six months, the NCP (SP) leader said.
In his own Karjat Jamkhed Assembly constituency in Maharashtra, 14,292 voters were added, 5,360 names were deleted and 14,162 duplicate names were inserted in the electoral rolls after the Lok Sabha elections.
There have been cases where the Aadhaar card of a voter in one constituency has been used to register another voter in another constituency with a changed photograph and name, the NCP (SP) MLA said.
