He clutched his stomach in visible pain as teammates and medical staff rushed to his aid.Initially believed to be bruised ribs, scans later revealed a second degree splenic laceration – a serious injury causing internal bleeding. Iyer was immediately taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where the quick intervention of doctors and the Indian team medical unit prevented the injury from becoming fatal.A hospital official described the hours after the incident as “critical” and noted that Iyer’s blood pressure had dropped dangerously low.
