India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has given a positive update on his recovery after sustaining a rib injury during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. The 29-year-old batsman, who was admitted to ICU after the incident, took to social media to thank fans for their well wishes and assured them that he was making steady progress.
“I am currently in the recovery process and getting better every day. I am deeply grateful to see all the well wishes and support I have received – it really means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” Iyer wrote on social media.
The injury occurred in the 34th over of the Sydney ODI when Iyer attempted a diving catch to dismiss Australia’s Alex Carey. He landed awkwardly on his right side and appeared to be in considerable pain before being carried off the pitch. Initially thought to be a minor impact injury, medical assessments later revealed a more serious condition requiring hospitalisation.
