Fear gripped the villagers of Echaneri village in Irala Mandal of Chittoor district after a leopard allegedly killed a cow on Wednesday.
According to forest officials, frequent movements of the leopard have been reported in the hilly areas adjacent to the forests on the Irala-Tavanampalle border in recent days. Against this background, a big cat was said to have beaten a cow to death, partially devouring the animal before retreating to a hillock. A team of forest officials reached the spot and started a search to identify the pug marks of the leopard.
Villagers were warned to secure their cattle during the night and the elderly were informed not to move alone in the dark.
