A Gen Z employee’s vacation request has gone viral for its unfiltered honesty—and the surprisingly empathetic response she received from her boss.
Jasveer Singh, co-founder and CEO of KnotDating recently shared a screenshot of an email sent by one of his young employees. The message came with a direct subject: “Leave from the 28th to the 8th.
But it was the content of the message that caught everyone’s attention.
“Hello sir, I recently went through a breakup and couldn’t concentrate on work. I need a short break. I’m working from home today so I’d like to take the 28th to the 8th off. Regards,” the email read.
Singh posted the screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Received the most sincere vacation request yesterday. Gen Z doesn’t filter!”
The post, which has since surpassed 4.5 million views, quickly became a trending topic online. Many were curious about the boss’s reaction – and Singh did not disappoint. When asked if he approved the vacation, he simply replied, “Vacation approved, immediately.”
Social media users had mixed but mostly amused reactions. One quipped: “There are people who don’t even take that many leaves to a wedding.” Another added: “Gen Z broke up and asked for vacations. Millennials broke down, cried in the bathroom and still met deadlines.”
However, some praised the employee’s honesty as well as Singh’s empathy. “Leave should be approved for his honesty and self-awareness. Empathy is the key to true leadership,” read one comment.
Another user wrote: “This is refreshing. People underestimate how much emotional pain can affect focus and productivity.”
The exchange sparked a broader conversation about how younger generations are redefining workplace culture—bringing mental health and emotional transparency into spaces that were once strictly professional.
