The body of a one-month-old baby girl was found in the drains of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar on Tuesday afternoon, prompting an investigation by the Santosh Nagar police.
The incident came to light around 3:00 pm after locals spotted the body floating in the nala and alerted the police through 100. A police team rushed to the spot, picked up the body of the infant and took it to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem.
Santosh Nagar Inspector K. Satyanarayana said two special teams have been formed to identify the child and trace his family. “We have written to maternity hospitals to request records of babies born in the last month,” he said.
Absence of CCTV cameras near the area makes the probe more challenging, the official said.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
