Nat Sciver-Brunt said she hopes India will qualify for the Women’s World Cup finals, citing the energetic atmosphere the women in blue can create. On Wednesday, England will face South Africa in the first semi-final at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, followed by the much-anticipated clash between India and Australia on October 30 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The final will be played on November 2, with England eyeing a fourth World Cup title and first since 2017. Sciver-Brunt added that her immediate focus remains on England’s semi-finals before turning to the high-pressure clash between Australia and the hosts.
“I guess – well, for me, I’m trying to think about tomorrow first and yes, of course, once we finish that game and hopefully get to the final, we’ll be watching that game tomorrow with a lot of interest, obviously for the competition. It would be great if India got to the final, I think, just to feel the atmosphere. But yeah, obviously it’s going to be a massive game tomorrow,” S said.
‘SOUTH AFRICA GROWS UP’
England opened their campaign with a commanding 10-wicket win over South Africa at the same venue, with the Proteas bowled out for just 69. They then went on a five-match unbeaten run before Australia snapped the series. Sciver-Brunt acknowledged that South Africa had improved significantly since that heavy defeat and said the upcoming semi-final promises to be an exciting contest.
“Yes, we’re obviously in the same place we started and with the same opposition. You see, that game was, yes, quite crazy. Obviously a great start from our side to this competition. But yes, I think not what we would have expected from South Africa. So, yes, I think obviously South Africa have really grown into this tournament and had some great games, had some chases. So yes, tomorrow will be exciting competition.”
England finished the league stage in second place with 11 points and a net rate of +1.233, winning five of their seven matches. Their match against Pakistan in Colombo was washed out due to rain.
