The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the severe cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ over the central west Bay of Bengal was located about 70 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam, 150 km south-southeast of Kakinada, 250 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam and 480 km southwest of Gosakhapatnam.
The IMD said the storm moved north-northwest at a speed of 15 kmph between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm The storm will continue to move north-northwest and cross Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum speed of 1 kmph to 1 kmph in the evening or night.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Andhra Pradesh as scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely in the districts of Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Yanam, Dr. BR Ambedkar West Konaseema, East Godava West Konaseema Godavari, Eluru, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, SPSR Nellore and Tirupati.

According to the real-time rainfall data available with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, many stations in SPSR Nellore and Prakasam received heavy rainfall between 8.30 am and 3 pm on Tuesday (October 28, 2025). The daily maximum so far is 108 mm, recorded at Kavali in SPSR Nellore district.
Krishna and Kakinada districts, where landfall is likely, have seen light to moderate showers so far.
According to IMD, the wind speed is reported from various stations Kalingapatnam: 34 kmph, Visakhapatnam: 44 kmph, Kavali: 36 kmph, Marteru: 52 kmph, Chinthapalli: 52 kmph and Badwel: 52 kmph.
