
Two people were killed and several others were seriously injured when a boiler exploded at a decorative panel plywood factory at Ananthapuram Industrial Center near Kumbala in Kasaragod on Monday evening (October 27).
One of the dead was identified as Najirul Ali, 19, a native of Assam. The identity of the other person has not yet been confirmed.
The blast, which occurred around 7:10 pm, created panic in the area as the sound of the explosion could be heard several kilometers away. Rescue operations were immediately started by fire brigade units from Kasaragod and Uppal with the help of police officials and residents. Several injured were taken to hospitals in Mangaluru.
A senior police officer said the cause of the boiler explosion has yet to be ascertained. The police have launched an investigation.
