The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) received a total of 52 complaints in the Prajavani program on Monday, most of which related to lake encroachment.
In Hasmathpet, Kukatpally (Balanagar mandal), residents alleged that 10 acres of government land had been encroached and blocked culverts of the Hasmathpet lake were flooding the surrounding layout. Similar complaints came from Pedda Golkonda (Shamshabad mandal) where the closure of the Narasimhakunta culverts led to inundation of agricultural land, even submerging parts of the service lane of the outer ring road.
Lake encroachment was also reported from Beeramguda, where locals said the Shambuni Kunta lake had shrunk from 22 acres to about six acres due to land loading. At Pariki Cheruvu in Kukatpally, nearly 12 acres were reportedly filled overnight for a proposed 18-storey apartment project. Complaints have also been received that illegal structures are encroaching on Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu.
In Yashodanagar Colony near Sagar Road, residents complained that internal roads were merged into private land, forcing long detours. Several complainants from Old Bowenpally have come forward alleging that 28 acres of government land – listed in the Archaeological Department Gazette of 1953 – has been occupied by local leaders and converted into a real estate venture.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath personally reviewed the complaints and directed the field officers to act swiftly.
