Josh Hazlewood has warned England ahead of the Ashes series not to try to get under Australia’s players. The comment comes just after stand-in captain Steve Smith told the England players to expect a tricky pitch during the series.
The English team was able to show its aggressive side during the India series with the team The Zak Crawley and Shubman Gill incident. Australian players like Nathan Lyon have said they expect a tough England side during the series.
Hazlewood said that sledging would not work on batsmen like Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green and they would not listen to verbal barbs from the opposition.
“To be honest, I wouldn’t bet on any of our batsmen,” Hazlewood told NewsCorp.
“Especially someone like Marnus (Labuschagne) and Cam Green. They’re so far into their own games and focused on their own hitting that I don’t think they ever hear it.”
“I think there are a lot of doughs like that these days.
NICE LEVEL OVER ASH
Tempers flared in England during the last Ashes series, with the Jonny Bairstow incident central. During the Lord’s trial, Alex Carey stumped Bairstow in controversial fashionwhich saw a lot of back and forth between the two teams.
Speaking about the upcoming series, Hazlewood said he was unsure how things would pan out. Temper admitted there will be a few moments when things get heated, but expects things to be pretty even in the Ashes.
“I’m not sure how it’s going to turn out,” Hazlewood added. “There will be times when it gets heated, but I think it will be pretty even over the five Test series.”
“We’re all pretty experienced and realize that it doesn’t really affect people these days.”
“You can still find the odd person that it might affect, but most of the time it probably gets people fired up and makes them play better,” Hazlewood said.
The Ashes will begin on November 21.
