The Tamil Nadu All Farmers Federation has requested the state government to provide a solatium of ₹ 50 lakh each to the four women who were killed by lightning on October 16 at Kaluduru near Thittagudi in the district.
A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the associations in Ariyanachi on Saturday.
In a resolution, the Association said that while the government had announced a compensation of ₹10 crore to each next of kin of the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy victims and those who died in the Karur stampede, the ₹5 crore compensation for the lightning strike victims came as a shock to the farming community.
The compensation should be increased to ₹ 50 lakh and employment should be given to one member from each family.
The association also demanded that the government provide crop insurance for maize farmers in Thittakudi whose crops were damaged in 2024.
Representatives of various farmers’ associations led by M. Arjunan, PS Palaniappan and R. Ram Pandian participated.
