Government run welfare, BC, SC and ST Welfare and Gurukul hostels in NTR district were closed and students were sent home due to Cyclone Montha.
As per the instructions of Collector G. Lakshmish, managements of all private and government educational institutions have declared holidays from October 27 to 29. Parents received alerts on their cellphones on Sunday.
Mr. Lakshmisha reviewed preparedness for Cyclone Montha with officials from Irrigation, Panchayat Raj, Municipal Commissioners, Revenue Divisional Offices, Civil Supplies, Roads and Buildings, AP Transco and other departments.
Control rooms have been set up at the Collectorate (Phone: 91549 70454), Sub-Collector Vijayawada office (0866 2574454), RDO Nandigama office (78930 53534) and RDO Tiruvuru office (83098 362535, 112535).
The Collector directed the officers to shift pregnant women and patients to nearby hospitals and stay in their assigned villages. Villagers were advised not to cross rivers or canals.
The public is urged not to stay under fences, trees or power poles. Tax officials and other officials were instructed to relocate people living in old or dilapidated houses.
