Delhi Traffic Alert for Chhath Puja: The grand festival dedicated to the Sun God ‘Surya’ is celebrated today, October 27. The festive celebrations started on Shashthi Tithi from 6.04 am. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for motorists to avoid the closed routes and use alternate routes from Monday afternoon to October 28 morning.
Announcing special traffic arrangements for the special occasion, the Delhi Traffic Police said in a post on X: “Severe congestion is expected near major ponds in East, Central/North, South/South East, North West/Outer and West Delhi.”
Routes closed
During this period, traffic movement will be affected on several key routes, including MB Road, Kalindi Kunj Khadar, Agra Canal Road and Road No. 13. The traffic police has advised the public to be aware of route detours and urged commuters to use public transport, especially the Delhi Metro, and avoid roadside parking.
The October 26 notification said, “Chhath Puja will be celebrated in NCT of Delhi from October 27, 2025 in the afternoon to October 28, 2025 in the morning.”
The advisor further notes, “On October 27, thousands of devotees will gather at various ponds from afternoon. Prayers will be held at sunset. While some devotees may leave after sunset, some will stay overnight at the ponds in tents.”
Alternative routes
Traffic will be diverted in Bhajanpura, Gandhi Nagar and Khajuri Khas area.
As per the advisory, a huge influx of devotees is expected near DND Yamuna Khadar, Satyamev Jayate near Shamshan Ghat Geeta Colony, Purwanchal Nav Nirman Sangathan, Gandhiu Nagar Chhath Poojan. Samiti Naav Ghat, Shyam Ghat of Jagat Puri, Yamuna Ghat’s shani Mandir, Kalindi Kunj’s Bhola Ghat, Sangam Vihar’s Asthal Mandir, Aaya nagar’s Khasra No. 1575 and Kalindi Kunj’s Shiv Ghat, among others.
It advises the public to avoid routes around the Chhath Puja sites, especially the stretches of MB Road (from Lal Kuan to Tughalkabad Extension), Khadar Kalindi Kunj Road, Agar Canal Road and Road No. 13, adding, “In Bhanjanpura area, commercial vehicles will not be allowed on GT Road towards Yudhishthir Park at 7:00 pm in 7:00 PM from Shastri. October and October 28, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00.”
It is important to note that Shantivan Loop and Laxmi Nagar to Kailash Nagar Road in Gandhi Nagar area will remain closed on October 27 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on October 28 from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Vehicles will be diverted via the disused Canal Road.
In Khajuri Khas area, traffic towards Sonia Vihar will be diverted from Nanaksar towards Old Wazirabad Road and vehicles from Sonia Vihar boundary will be diverted from MCD Toll towards Sabhapur Village, the advisor said.
