Family members of many victims of the Karur stampede left for Mamallapuram on Sunday, where they were invited by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), saying that party founder and actor Vijay plans to meet them on Monday to offer condolences.
The party cadre visited the homes of the bereaved family members on Sunday and provided them with cars for their local trips. They were subsequently taken to Vennaimalai in Karur where they boarded air-conditioned buses waiting to be taken to Mamallapuram. Buses left on Sunday afternoons.
According to sources, the family members of about 30 of the 33 victims belonging to Karur district accepted Mr. Vijay’s invitation. As Sunday turned out to be the 30th day since the Karur tragedy, some of the bereaved families performed 30th day rituals in their homes before leaving for Mamallapuram.
TVK sources said these families will be accommodated in a hotel and will travel back to Karuru on Monday night.
