Public procurement is in full swing in the Cauvery delta as daily inspections — closely monitored by district collectors and officials — keep operations tightly coordinated, officials said on Saturday.
District administrations reported rapid purchase and steady movement of grain to storage and processing sites. Tiruvarur produced 2,02,160 tonnes obtained on 24 October; this figure was 1,20,848 tonnes in Mayiladuthurai; and 75,628 tonnes in Nagapattinam districts. So far, all three districts have received 3,98,636 tons of orders. Payments totaling ₹ 970.74 crore have been made to the bank accounts of 66,245 farmers so far.
District collectors and officials of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation conducted daily checks at direct shopping centers to check moisture levels, packing standards and safe stacking of bags. Officials said expanded storage capacity — including government warehouses, private sheds and mills — along with staggered rail and truck shipments helped prevent bottlenecks and reduce the risk of spoilage. Movement from collection points averages several thousand tonnes per day, with coordinated track heads and rolling stock ensuring rapid movements.
Mayiladuthurai has reported an almost complete harvest while Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam continue to buy actively from the remaining pockets. Stressing on adherence to moisture and packaging norms, the authorities urged the farmers to bring properly stacked and labeled parcels to the DPC for quick hassle-free transactions.
