The Kerala High Court has sought the state government’s opinion on a plea filed by Malayalam rapper Hirandas Murali, known as Vedan, seeking modification of the conditions imposed by the Sessions Court while granting him anticipatory bail in a sexual assault case.
As a condition of his bail, he cannot leave the state without the court’s permission and must appear before an investigating officer every Sunday. Vedan approached the Supreme Court seeking modification of the terms with reference to the theatrical performances to be held in several foreign countries in December. He claimed that such appearances were his only source of livelihood and that the change in conditions would not affect the probe.
He was accused of sexually assaulting a Dalit music researcher at his apartment in Kochi. The matter was tabled for hearing next week.
In another petition before the High Court, the appellant challenged the show-cause notice issued to her by the Ernakulam Central Police. The proceedings on her claim were closed after the public prosecutor announced that the notification had been withdrawn.
