State Information Commissioner M Sreekumar has warned that strict disciplinary action will be taken against officials who fail to respond to Right to Information (RTI) requests within the stipulated time. He was speaking after a hearing held at Thrissur Collectorate on Thursday.
Dr. Sreekumar said that though most officials responded to RTI requests promptly and transparently, a small section still showed negligence in providing timely responses. Such outages will not be tolerated, he warned. Officials have been directed to treat RTI requests with utmost seriousness and ensure full and clear responses within the stipulated time.
During the hearing chaired by Dr. Sreekumar in the video conferencing hall of the Collectorate, 32 of the 33 pending appeals were disposed of. One appeal was adjourned to the next meeting because the officers concerned did not appear.
The two-day hearing heard appeals involving the Department of Local Government, Police, Education and the Finance Department.
