Chief Minister VD Satheesan said June 15 will be a significant day in the history of Kerala with the introduction of the state-level Priyadarshini scheme, which offers free travel for women and transgender persons in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses across the state. He said the scheme would not only make KSRTC more people-friendly but also mark the beginning of a major transformation in the corporation.
The district level program will be inaugurated at 9 am at Ernakulam Boat Jetty Bus Stand.
The event will be inaugurated by MP Hibi Eden. Mr. Satheesan said that KSRTC will be run on professional lines based on detailed studies. He was speaking after flagging off four new KSRTC buses deployed on the Aluva–Paravur route.
In response to numerous complaints from the public, the government decided to urgently put new buses on the route.
If the trial operation of the new routes proves successful, additional buses will be introduced. Two regular buses and two intercity buses started operating on the route.
The government is focused on providing the best possible public transport services, he said, adding that significant changes would be visible in the KSRTC in the next six months.
Municipal Chairman Ramesh D. Kurup, North Paravur Assistant Traffic Officer A. Anil Kumar and other officials of the department attended the function held at the KSRTC Bus Stand in Paravur.
