Three killed when truck goes out of control in MP

An out-of-control truck rammed into a car, crashed into a bus and crashed into a bridge in Katni, Madhya Pradesh on Sunday (Jun 14, 2026), leaving three dead and 29 injured passengers on the bus, police said.

The accident took place near a bridge in an industrial area under Kuthla police station limits when a bus carrying about 35 passengers was traveling from Katni to Vijayraghavgarh Kymore while a truck was coming from the opposite direction, Superintendent of Police Abhinav Vishwakarma told PTI over phone.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the truck driver lost control of the bike due to brake failure, he said.

The impact caused the bus to overturn, trapping several passengers. In an operation that lasted more than 35 minutes, a crane was used to lift the bus and save the passengers.

Local residents joined police personnel and administrative officials in the rescue operations.

The deceased passengers were identified as Kishan Kol (30), Neelam Prajapati and Raju Choudhary, police said.

The girl, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Divisional Headquarters Jabalpur, while the others were being treated at the district hospital, Mr. Vishwakarma said.

The truck driver was also injured.

Eyewitnesses said the collision caused panic and trapped passengers inside and under the overturned bus. One person remained wedged in the cab of the truck.

The accident disrupted traffic on the Katni-Vijayraghavgarh road for nearly an hour before it was restored, police said.
