
A total of 191 temporary relief camps have been set up in Cuddalore district since Wednesday in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall.
According to Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, 28 cyclone shelters and 14 multi-purpose shelters are also ready to evacuate people in case of emergency. Those living in low-lying areas were asked to temporarily move to higher ground or to established relief centres. In addition, earthmoving machines, inflatable boats, tree cutters, generators and motor pumps were prepared.
The administration has identified 239 low-lying areas in Cuddalore district. He said desilting of all water bodies under the control of the Public Works Department and local authorities has been completed and officials are monitoring the water level round the clock.
