Man accused of extortion

The Cheemeni police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly extorting ₹20 crore from a studio owner in Cheruvathur.

The arrested person is identified as M. Zulfiqar, a resident under Cheemeni Police Station. Police said he allegedly carried out the scam under the name of Azeez.

According to the complaint, the accused, his wife and their associates allegedly extorted around ₹20 crore from him through bank transactions for the period from last year.

Police said Zulfiqar and his wife met the complainant when they were staying in a rented house in Karivellur. The accused was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
