A live-in couple from Odisha was found dead in their rented house in Anekal in Bengaluru city in what police said was a suicide.
The incident, which took place at Kallabalu village in Anekal, came to light on Tuesday when the police had to break open the door. The action followed a tip-off from the property owner, who became suspicious as the couple had not opened the door since Sunday, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Seema Nayak (25) and Rakesh Nayak (23), hailed from Odisha and were employed as cleaners in private firms in a nearby industrial area.
“The man appears to have hanged himself first. The woman tried to cut the rope with a knife, but she also hanged herself when she realized he was dead,” a police official said.
According to information from neighbors, the man was allegedly drunk and was supposed to be involved in an argument with his partner on Sunday, the official said.
Police are now trying to get in touch with the relatives of the deceased in Odisha. The couple only rented the property 10 days ago.
A case has been registered and further investigations are underway, police said.
Rajasthan: Couple found dead in Jaipur house
In a separate incident, a couple was found dead at their home in Jaipur’s Jamdoli area, with police suggesting the case may be a murder-suicide sparked by marital differences, an official said on Wednesday, news agency PTI reported.
The deceased have been named as Daudayal (51) and his wife Babita (46). Jamdoli Station House Officer (SHO) Prahlad Narayan said when the police reached the crime scene on Tuesday evening, following a tip-off from the control room, the wife was found lying on the floor while her husband was discovered hanging from the ceiling fan.
Their son, who discovered the bodies after returning home from the Govind Dev temple, informed the police that his parents often quarreled and suspected each other of their fidelity.
“Preliminary evidence suggests that the husband strangled his wife to death before hanging himself,” Narayan said.
A police team and forensic experts have taken samples from the premises to assist with the ongoing investigation.
The bodies were taken to the SMS Hospital for an autopsy to be conducted by a medical board. Police confirmed that a case was registered based on the son’s statement.
