The Tiruppur South police on Tuesday arrested three persons accused of assaulting a practicing doctor at the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital, alleging that he was delaying in providing treatment to their friends.
Deventhiran, Devakumar and Bharathiraja, residents of Nallur, were arrested for offenses under sections 329 (4), 296 (b), 115 (2), 121 (1), 132 and 351 (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Damage Medicare Service. or loss of property) Act, 2008.
According to the police, two friends of the accused, who sustained injuries in a road accident, were brought to the hospital’s casualty department at around 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday. After providing first aid, they were advised to have an X-ray examination to identify any fractures. However, due to the influx of Deepavali-related emergencies, there was a delay in conducting the X-ray scan for the duo, police said.
Meanwhile, the three accused had an argument with Karthik Murugan, a medical practitioner on duty in the trauma department, and allegedly assaulted him. The staff immediately alerted the police base on the hospital premises about the incident.
The police rushed to the department and took all three into custody. The Tiruppur South police registered a case against Deventhiran, Devakumar and Bharathiraja based on a complaint lodged by a doctor and arrested them. They were taken into judicial custody.
