Janshakti Janta Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav was arrested for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) while filing his nomination papers from Mahua Assembly seat in Bihar’s Vaishali district on Sunday (Oct 19, 2025), police said.
According to a statement issued by the district police, the Mahua circle officer lodged a complaint with the concerned police station after a video that went viral on social media showed Mr Yadav using an SUV with a police logo and a beacon during a document submission procession on October 16.
“It has been thoroughly investigated and it has been found that the police logo and beacon used on the vehicle are private. Therefore, a case has been registered for violation of election rules,” it said.
Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, launched the party after he was expelled from the RJD for six years by his father on 25 May 2025 for allegedly admitting to being “in a relationship” with a woman. However, he later deleted the Facebook post claiming that his page had been “hacked”. Lalu Prasad Yadav also disowned Teja Pratap due to his “irresponsible behaviour”.
Days later, after his expulsion from the RJD, Mr Yadav alleged that there was a “conspiracy” to drive a wedge between him and his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav.
He expressed his feelings in several posts on his X handle, blaming the crisis on “Jaichand”, a metaphor for traitors.
