The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) march route, planned as part of its centenary celebrations, took place at Sedam in Kalaburagi district on Sunday despite police restrictions.
Dramatic scenes unfolded when hundreds of uniformed RSS workers gathered at the Narmada College premises at 1 pm and started their march as scheduled at 3 pm.
When the procession entered the main road near DBR Compound, the police intervened and stopped the march citing lack of official permission.
According to officials, Seven Tahsildar Shreyanka Dhanashri on Saturday evening rejected the RSS’s request to take out the procession, saying it may disturb public peace and order.
The participants were not discouraged and continued the event.
The police detained several Swayamsevaks and members of the group and loaded them into four or five buses. However, many locals objected to the police action, leading to heated exchanges and minor skirmishes.
Inside the detained buses, the volunteers played their instruments and raised slogans like “Bharat Mata ki Jai” in protest.
After some time, they were released at various places in the city, including the bus stand and the taluk panchayat office. The Swayamsevaks later regrouped and continued their march, passing through various localities where residents showered them with flower petals.
The march ended back at Narmada College.
