The Zilla Valmiki Samiti has complained to the police that former MP Ramesh Katti used abusive language against community members in an interaction with supporters in Belagavi on Sunday.
The complainants said that Ramesh Katti used an insulting word for the community and that he must be charged under the BNS and Prevention of Atrocities (against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Act.
They have sent copies of a video clip in which the former chairman of Belagavi District Central Cooperative Bank is seen/heard using an abusive word against the community and laughing.
Minister Satish Jarkiholi, who is a member of the Valmiki Bedar Nayaka community, said it was not acceptable for senior leaders to continue using abusive words against certain communities.
He said such actions could lead to legal challenges and that the law would take its own course.
Boras Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao said a complaint has been received and investigation is on.
