Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to be on high alert in view of the onset of monsoon and take steps in advance to avoid inconvenience to the people.

He warned that strict action would be initiated against officials found guilty of dereliction of duty. The Chief Minister inquired about the state of affairs in the Core Urban Region (CURE) during the heavy rains on June 9 and expressed displeasure over the traffic jams and other problems faced by the people. According to him, despite the meteorologist’s warning, it was found that the city administration and the police are not fulfilling their duties.

The chief minister recalled the instructions he had given during the June 1 meeting and grilled the officials for not following them. Absence of effective coordination between the city and the police department and negligence on the part of the officials concerned were evident in the situation witnessed on June 9.

He directed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao to analyze the reasons behind the development and initiate action against the officials concerned. He wanted the officials to take advance action based on the forecast of the meteorological department. Officials of the MU, HYDRAA, transport, waterworks and other unions should remain on the field. “I myself will come and check the situation at the ground level,” he said.

Warning the traffic police not to give space to traffic jams, he directed Director General of Police CV Anand to take steps to fill up the vacancies in the traffic wing at the earliest. “There should be no room for complacency. I will not tolerate if human errors are found to be behind the problems,” he said.

Directing the officials concerned to be ready with data regarding water abstraction points, black spots on roads and areas where there was scope for traffic jams, he said that there was power cut in several areas due to uprooted trees and expressed displeasure that the officials did not intervene in time to restore power supply. Officials should have mobile transformers wherever needed and departmental officials should be compulsorily on the ground.
