
Light to heavy rains lashed Mysuru and surrounding regions on Saturday night and continued till the wee hours of Sunday.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC), Mysuru received 15.1 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday. This is against the normal or long-term average of 3.4 mm over the same period.
Mandya recorded 19.8 mm of rainfall against the normal of 4.8 mm, while Chamarajanagar received 16.6 mm of rainfall against the normal of 5.3 mm during the same period. Rainfall was uniform and widespread with Kodagu receiving 11.8 mm against the normal of 3.9 mm, according to the KSNDMC.
The highest rainfall in the state during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Sunday was recorded at Shanegere gram panchayat in Arasikere taluk of Hassan district. According to KSNDMC records, 171 mm of rainfall fell.
Cumulative rainfall from October 1 to 19 is bordering between a large surplus in Hassan and surplus in other districts of the Mysuru region. Hassan has received 177mm of rainfall in the month to date, which is 77% above normal. Mysuru recorded 120 mm rainfall, 32% above normal; while Mandya recorded 153 mm of rainfall, 52% more than normal. Chamarajanagar received 109 mm of rainfall, 8% above normal. However, Kodagu district received 108 mm of rainfall during the same period, which is 16 percent below the long-term average.
The KSNDMC has predicted heavy rains and thundershowers at places over Kodagu, Hassan and Chikkamagaluru and light to moderate rains over Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts. A yellow alert has been issued for Kodagu and Shivamogga till 8.30 am on Monday.
