
Police have stepped up patrolling in Cuddalore district in view of the Deepavali festival.
In addition to deploying personnel at convenient locations, police have installed surveillance cameras in congested areas to curb crime.
More than 2,500 policemen have been deployed on bandobus duty in connection with the festival across Cuddalore district. Strike Force personnel and anti-sabotage teams have also been deployed in seven sub-divisions: Cuddalore, Panruti, Chidambaram, Sethiyathope, Neyveli, Vriddhachalam and Thittakudi, in addition to the Home Guard.
Police officers would be deployed round the clock in shifts. The police have also activated round-the-clock patrolling along state and national highways and installed additional surveillance cameras.
The police also warned that action would be taken against drink driving and those who try to create law and order problems during the festival.
