Rain disrupts life in Kurnool, Nandyal districts
Parts of Kurnool and Nandyal districts received heavy rainfall on Saturday night, disrupting vehicular movement between villages, causing waterlogging in residential areas and leading to flooding at some places.
Officials said Kosigi mandal in Kurnool district recorded the highest rainfall of 100.60 mm, followed by Aluru mandal with 95.20 mm. Bethamcherla in Nandyal district received the highest reading of 77.20 mm while Dhone recorded 57 mm.
According to sources, rainwater entered houses in several colonies of Pedakaduburu village due to lack of proper drainage systems and CC roads. Local residents, who claimed that this situation occurs every time it rains despite repeated complaints to officials, complained that stocks of rice, grains, clothes and household items were damaged.
Meanwhile, traffic between Halaharvi and Gulyam villages came to a standstill as rainwater overflowed the road at Cheruvanka. Similarly, in Yemmiganur mandal, the Kappala Vanka stream overflowed at Kadivella village causing traffic disruption between Yemmiganur and Pathikonda.
In Gonegandla mandal, the Mallela Vagu stream overflowed near Ganjahalli village as it received tributaries from upstream areas.
In Anantapur district, nine mandals were affected by moderate to heavy showers. Reservoirs, canals, streams and local water bodies were flooded, while roads were flooded in some urban areas. The towns of Anantapur, Hindupur, Puttaparthi, Tadipatri and Dharmavaram also received good rainfall, affecting traffic movement.
